If you are looking for something that you can go get at the store, try Excedrin. It contains aspirin, Tylenol(acetaminophen) and caffeine, and it works really well for headaches. Some stores have been having a shortage of Excedrin, but most chain drugstores and large supermarkets will have a store brand that works just as well as the name brand. Look for a label that says “compare to Excedrin”, or look for those three ingredients– aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine. That should help.

Actually the best one is the one you find to take your migraine away. Everyone is different…Imitrex is good. My wife uses Maxalt. Firoicet is old…prob. not the best choice. There are someother newer ones as well. Make sure you have a complete evaluation of your All kinds of Headache before being prescribed migraine drug. even though your doctor doesn’t order a Ct scan (at least)…go somewhere else.

My little brother is ill, with a ferocious headache and his body is at least a degree or two higher in his temperature, what should I do…? Is it better for a wet rag to be luke-warm or cold when placed on the forehead?

a warm compress will actually help his headache.Cold will only make it worse. You want to open up the blood vessels.Make sure it is not too hot.Give some Tylenol if he has not ingested alcohol or any other medications, and tell hime to rest.If temp starts to get higher meaning over 101.0 then he needs to be taken to the hospital

What is the best way to get rid of a severe migraine?

What is the best way to get rid of a severe migraine?
I have severe migraines everyday. I wake up it’s there, I go to sleep it’s still there. For the past 6 years I have lived with a migraine that never goes away. I’ve tried all of the major OTCs and prescription medications for headaches and nothing ever works. If there is some odd, non-medication treatment (besides accupuncture which failed to work for me) that you’ve tried and it worked for you please let me know.
I’ve also been to many doctors because of this, I’ve spent time at MHNI (Michigan Head pain and Neurological Institute) which specializes in headaches, and they can’t even tell me what’s wrong.

What is the best migraine medication you have tried, and why is it the best?

What is the best migraine medication you have tried, and why is it the best?
I’ve had migraines off and on for years, due to a car accident. The last 2 years, the migraines have cropped up more often and my doctor will prescribe a migraine med for me to have on hand. The problem is, she says that they are all very similar.

So, the question for yahoo users is, in your personal migraine experiences, what prescription migraine medication worked best, and were there side effects, etc?

Thanks!

I have had migraines for 30 years. None are the best. The question is in finding the best one for you. You are the only one who can determine that. Ask the Doc. to prescribe the migraine abortive medications one at a time until you find the one that works best for you.

I personally use Imitrex. I have also tried Maxalt, Zomig and all of the others that I don’t remember the names of. Imitrex has been the best for me.

The key with any of these is to take them immediately, as soon as you realize that the pain is coming or expect that it is heading to migraine level. even though you wait until you have a full blown migraine, no medication will work.

Keep a daily headache diary when you try the new meds. At the end of a few days, or weeks depending on how often you get them, you will have the details for the Doctor. Help them to help you.

Best of luck.
