What is the best way to get rid of a severe migraine?
I have severe migraines everyday. I wake up it’s there, I go to sleep it’s still there. For the past 6 years I have lived with a migraine that never goes away. I’ve tried all of the major OTCs and prescription medications for headaches and nothing ever works. If there is some odd, non-medication treatment (besides accupuncture which failed to work for me) that you’ve tried and it worked for you please let me know.
I’ve also been to many doctors because of this, I’ve spent time at MHNI (Michigan Head pain and Neurological Institute) which specializes in headaches, and they can’t even tell me what’s wrong.

Can migraine headaches make someone permanently blind?
I suffer regularly from migraine headaches with aura (I go blind for about twenty minutes and then my vision returns when the headache starts..) I’ve just been googling migraine on the intenret and have read that it can make someone permenantly blind, and can increase the risk of strokes and coma. Is this true? I’m panicking now because I suffer from migraines at least twice a week.

Answer by Jennifer Well, you should have went to the emergency room when this occurred.I’m speaking about going blind for a total of 20 minutes.
I know that if I had a migraine(which I have),and went totally blind for any amount of time…I would clearly go directly to the emergency room…every time that would happen.
And,seeing how you have this happen 2 times a week, and go blind 2 times a week….surly you see your doctor,or go right to the emergency room when this occurs.
This is my advice to you. When this happens…go directly to the emergency room to be evaluated as soon as possible.And,also….see your doctor in reference to going blind every time you have a migraine…2 times a week.

How to know am having a normal Headache or Migraine? What is the different? How to cure it?
I always have problem in knowing whether I have a Migraine or just an ordinary Headache. Obviously, I always have a bad headache that can last for about 2 to 5 days. Ordinary drug such as Paracetamol (500mg x 2) is not really effective for me. It makes me taking another strong drug such as Ponstan (500mg) to reduce my headache. However, the painkiller could not last long, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I just think that my headache become worst in some way that sometimes Ponstan no more effective for me and force me to take another drug such as Sonap (275mg) which is usually used for Migraine. It is mean that am having a Migraine or we have some level of Headaches?

How can you get rid of a migraine headache?
I have never had one before ( I assuming it’s a migraine). I am having sensitivity to light, and it feels like someone is stabbing me in the eye. How do you get rid of this thing?

Answer by CAT I hate spam answers like your other two answers. It does sound like a migraine. If you don’t have a caffeine sensitivity, go get some Excedrin Migraine, it works pretty good. Take it as directed and lie down in a dark quiet room. If you fall asleep that’s fine, if the headache doesn’t ease up after two hours take another dose and continue to lie down. If by tomorrow you are still having the headache seeing a doctor wouldn’t hurt, they can give you stronger migraine specific medication. The Excedrin always helps my husband who gets them really bad, he gets numbness along with pain. I get menstrual migraines that have to be treated with a prescription medication called Frova, it’s designed for those types of migraines. I hope you feel better, and I hope I could be of some help.

Fioricet (butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine capsule) is a combination of a barbiturate, a non-salicylate analgesic and antipyretic, and a central nervous system stimulant indicated for the relief of the symptom complex of tension (or muscle contraction) headache.
Common side effects of Fioricet include:
drowsiness
lightheadedness
dizziness, sedation
shortness of breath
nausea
vomiting
abdominal pain, and
intoxicated feeling
The dose of Fioricet is one or two capsules every four hours. The total daily dosage of Fioricet should not exceed 6 capsules Fioricet may interact with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, other narcotic analgesics, alcohol, general anesthetics, tranquilizers such as chlordiazepoxide, sedative-hypnotics, or other CNS depressants.
Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. During pregnancy, Fioricet should be taken only if prescribed. It is unknown if it would affect a fetus. All the drugs in Fioricet pass into breast milk, and breastfeeding while taking Fioricet is not recommended. Withdrawal symptoms may occur if you suddenly stop taking Fioricet.

Barbiturates may be habit-forming: Tolerance, psychological dependence, and physical dependence may occur especially following prolonged use of high doses of barbiturates. The average daily dose for the barbiturate addict is usually about 1500 mg.
As tolerance to barbiturates develops, the amount needed to maintain the same level of intoxication increases; tolerance to a fatal dosage, however, does not increase more than two-fold. As this occurs, the margin between an intoxication dosage and fatal dosage becomes smaller.
The lethal dose of a barbiturate is far less if alcohol is also ingested. Major withdrawal symptoms (convulsions and delirium) may occur within 16 hours and last up to 5 days after abrupt cessation of these drugs.
Intensity of withdrawal symptoms gradually declines over a period of approximately 15 days.
Treatment of barbiturate dependence consists of cautious and gradual withdrawal of the drug. Barbiturate-dependent patients can be withdrawn by using a number of different withdrawal regimens.
One method involves initiating treatment at the patient’s regular dosage level and gradually decreasing the daily dosage as tolerated by the patient.
The Fioricet ‘High’ and Abuse
The butalbital in Fioricet belongs to a class of drugs called barbiturates, a central nervous system depressant.
Like other barbiturates, it has the potential to cause physical and psychological dependence, which can lead to abuse.
Those who use too much Fioricet may report feeling so relaxed and stress-free that they seek out the drug as a way to get high.
Some describe it as feeling intoxicated. However, users can feel depressed and “crash” once the effects wear off.
